China

China moves between ancient history and modern scale in a way few places can. The Great Wall stretches across misty mountain ridges, while Xi’an’s Terracotta Warriors still stand guard thousands of years later. In Shanghai, glass towers and neon lights rise above the river in one of the world’s fastest-moving cities. Travel here might mean wandering Beijing’s narrow hutong lanes by bike, taking high-speed trains across the country, or watching giant pandas laze around in Chengdu’s conservation parks. Further south, limestone cliffs tower over the rivers of Guilin and the Yangtze winds through dramatic gorges.

Unmissable Moments

Tobogganing Off the Great Wall

Tobogganing Off the Great Wall

Ride the cable car up and walk the ridgeline of the Great Wall, hills rolling out in every direction. Then hop on a metal toboggan and let gravity do the talking. History, with a very un-serious exit.

What we say

Mike
Mike
It's the moments in-between.

I wasn't prepared for how much China would stop me in my tracks. Not just the obvious things like the Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, Shanghai at night, but the moments in between. Cycling through Beijing's hutong lanes at dusk when the neighbourhood comes alive. A high speed train. Guilin's limestone cliffs appearing out of morning fog over the river. China has a way of making you feel like you've barely scratched the surface no matter how long you stay.
