Nsenene: Uganda’s Famous Grasshopper Snack
Every year after the rainy season begins, markets and roadside stalls across Uganda fill with nsenene, a seasonal delicacy made from large green grasshoppers. They’re usually pan-fried with salt and spices until crisp, creating a surprisingly nutty flavour that locals often compare to shrimp or roasted nuts. During peak season, people head out at night with lights and nets to collect the swarming insects.
