Germany

Germany moves between extremes. In Berlin, former industrial buildings host world-class galleries and the kind of nightlife that starts on Saturday and ends sometime Sunday. In Bavaria, the Alps rise above medieval towns and green valleys where little has changed in centuries. The Rhine cuts through vineyards and castle-topped cliffs. Hamburg's waterfront hums with music and maritime history. Frankfurt bridges old and new in a single skyline. Germany rewards the curious traveller with culture, history and a local pride in doing things properly, from the bread to the beer to the trains.

Oktoberfest: Best day of my life

Germany is the trip where you land thinking you'll spend a few days in Berlin and learn about the history. Then you end up at Oktoberfest, standing on beer tables with strangers you just met. Eating multiple pretzels a day. Endless steins. Singing along to Robbie Williams for the 100th time. The food is better than anyone told you. And the beer... the beer deserves its own paragraph. Oktoberfest is a festival you don't just go to once. This is a once in a lifetime experience.
