Nozawa Onsen is two things at once. One of Japan's best kept powder secrets, and one of the most genuinely beautiful traditional towns in the country. Cobblestone streets, timber buildings, local eateries and thirteen free public hot spring baths that have been here longer than the ski lifts. Based out of Sakurasou Lodge, a peaceful and welcoming property sitting 400 metres from the Nagasaka Gondola in the heart of Nozawa Onsen village, this is one of the most well-located bases available in the Nozawa area. Rooms with calming Japanese design touches and Western-style beds, suitable for groups of three to four. A shared lounge with a new fireplace that becomes the natural gathering point after the mountain. A fully equipped shared kitchen for self-catering when the mood calls for it. And two public onsens just 100 metres from the front door, with Nozawa Onsen's main street a five-minute stroll away. Sakurasou has undergone a range of upgrades for the upcoming winter season, so it’s a freshly updated lodge with everything you need and none of the fuss. Your Nozawa Onsen ski pass opens up the full resort across the Nozawa area, with multiple lifts and terrain to suit all levels all accessible by the Nagasaka Gondola a short walk from the lodge. Beyond the mountain there are 13 public onsens across the broader Nozawa valley, each one fed by natural hot springs at a different temperature and mineral level. Once you’ve completed your new daily relaxation ritual, head to Nozawa Onsen village for dinner and drinks. Ski and snowboard rental and lessons available for those who want to progress. This trip is fully customisable. Number of nights, group size, room configuration, number of ski days, lesson scheduling, onsen bookings and restaurant reservations, all of it shaped around what your group actually wants. Fill in your preferences when you request a custom quote and we'll build the trip around you.

Powder Days at Nozawa Onsen Resort

This is what you came for. Nozawa's powder is the real thing, deep, dry and light in a way that changes what skiing actually feels like. This place delivers snow in quantities most resorts can only dream about, and the terrain here rewards people who go looking for it. The Nagasaka Gondola is 400 metres from the lodge. The resort stretches across multiple zones of terrain from wide open groomers to tree runs and back bowls. Your ski pass gives you the freedom to follow the conditions wherever they go.

Exploring Nozawa Onsen Village (Encouraged)

Off the mountain, Nozawa Onsen village is a five-minute stroll from the lodge and has everything you need and nothing that feels unnecessary. A hot spring town that has been welcoming visitors for centuries. Convenience stores stocked better than most supermarkets. Ramen spots with six seats and a chef who's been making the same broth for twenty years. Izakayas where you point at things and they're always good. A few bars that get livelier than they look from the outside. Wander without a plan and something good will find you.

Onsen Sessions: Public Baths and Beyond (Encouraged)

There are 13 public onsens all around town, with a few sitting just 100 metres from Sakurasou Lodge, fed by natural hot springs and free to use. No research, no travel, just two minutes on foot after the mountain. Nozawa Onsen village has thirteen public soto-yu baths in total, each with its own character and temperature. Myoko Kogen also has several onsens across the broader valley worth exploring throughout the week. Slide into water hot enough to revive your body for the next day, stare at the steam rising into the cold mountain air. One of the non-negotiable parts of any Japan ski week. ARRIVAL will point you toward the best ones before you arrive.
