Adelaide to Uluru: Seven Days Camping through Red Dirt, Ancient Gorges and Open Sky

Seven days. Five nights sleeping under more stars than you've ever seen. From Adelaide's coastline to the sacred heart of Australia, through the ancient Flinders Ranges, the underground opal capital of the world and the towering cliffs of Kings Canyon, finishing up at Uluru as the desert glows at sunrise. This is the real Australia, travelled properly by air-conditioned van.

Off-Grid

Most people know Australia is big. This trip makes you feel it. Seven days overland from Adelaide's coastline to the sacred heart of the continent, through ancient mountain ranges, across salt flats that look like another planet, underground in an opal mining town carved into the desert rock and out the other side into the red dirt silence of the Northern Territory. The trip ends at Uluru. Seven days of outback earns you that moment. This is a small group trip of up to twenty travellers in an air-conditioned van with a storyteller guide who knows this country properly, stopping where more context is needed, moving when the road calls. You’ll spend five nights in a traditional Aussie swag under the open outback sky and one night underground in Coober Pedy, carved into the earth to escape the desert heat. The camping style is somewhere between glamping and genuinely getting off-grid, with the option to upgrade if you want an extra layer of comfort. Each day the landscape shifts. Red gorges, ancient Aboriginal rock art, salt lakes that stretch to the horizon, the world's longest dingo fence, a canyon rim walk and then Uluru at sunrise on the final morning.

Arkaroo Rock and the Ancient Markings

A 3.2km trail through native bush to a rock shelter etched with ochre and charcoal art over 5,000 years old. These aren't tourist displays, they're active cultural sites telling the story of Akurra, the giant serpent whose body shaped this landscape. The Flinders Ranges feel different after you've stood here and understood even a fraction of what they mean.
